60 seconds with Alison Harris, Buyer

Alison Harris first started working in the electronics industry for Avnet in 2011, then joining NOTE Windsor in January 2020.

We caught up with Alison this week to find out a bit more about her interests and what motivates her to succeed…

What do you foresee as the biggest challenge in your job?
I’m sure everyone is aware of the global shortage of components and extremely long lead times.  This, together with a shortage of raw materials, makes purchasing very challenging. As a buyer we are always looking for the best price and shortest lead times, but now just getting product is a victory.

What three words best describe yourself?
Loyal, hardworking and kind.

Where would you be and what would you be typically be doing on a Tuesday morning?
On a Tuesday morning I would be at my desk searching for components and placing orders, looking at reports that I always try to run at some time on a Monday, and following up on emails.

What interests do you have outside of work?
At the weekend I love to walk with my rescue dog Bob.  In normal times I love to travel, anything from skiing to visiting cities in Europe.

If you weren’t working in the electronics industry, what would be your ideal job?
I can answer this without hesitation, it would be to work for the Born Free Foundation wildlife conservation in Kenya.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
I have a friend who always says, “it will be fine, you just need a plan” and she is correct most things can be solved with a plan.

What are your three top tips to succeed in life?

  1. Enjoy what you do.
  2. Learn from others and build on it.
  3. Treat people with kindness.
